For all the hype around the base M3 CPU, it gets beaten by an AMD CPU and iGPU. This shows up in the Beelink GTR7, which also costs less than the expected M3 Mac Mini with similar DDR5 RAM.

You seem misinformed. The base M3 is three times more efficient. It will run in the next iPad, which is something this Ryzen can only dream of. Even the latest and most efficient Ryzen chip, the Z1 Extreme, with a 7-inch FHD screen on Rog Ally and a huge battery, consumes an absurd 50 watts of power and only lasts a measly one hour of handheld gaming. In comparison, AMD doesn't even come close to the best ARM chips.

Dakrkich, @Dakrkich you are right but at the same time you have made a wrong conclusion. AMD Z1 Extreme is extremely efficient. Running the same identical game, Lies of P, on a MacBook Pro (M3) and on a Legion Go (Z1) has shown that the 100W/h battery lasted exactly double the 50W/h battery of the Legion Go. We can assume that the efficiency of both chips is quite similar, and even their declared TDP is really closer than you think (15w Vs 15w). The incredible running time presented by Apple is achieved using low power computational tasks, like watching video or scrolling a web page. Gaming is an highly demanding task: gaming AAA titles on a MacBook Pro has shown how similar their real efficiency is. According to the first reviewers, AMD on the brand new Threadripper 7000 has reached the most efficient architecture ever for x86 cores (0.8 volt, less than 3.5 watts per core). It's crazy efficient for that performance level, which repositioned ARM cores in a less interesting league. They almost broke 150,000 points on Cinebench 23 (Apple M3 stands at 10,370, for comparison, ). So, no, AMD has shown to have an efficient high-performance architecture and they are ready for Zen 5c next year, their efficiency-centered architecture.

Gabroz, I own two machines, each with one of these processors. They're both fantastic, though the M3 is noticeably snappier. That's a combination of apple software, proprietary hardware, etc. which is something you just cannot get with a regular windows PC. Now, I have both - so clearly I have a need for each. The ryzen PC is for gaming, and general computer work as well as being more software friendly which gives me access to all the software I could need to use. The M3 is for content creation, and relaxing/consuming media. Neither of these could do the other's job comfortably.
